CEC European Managers shares ETUC position on the European private company.
December 2009
Among the issues on the agenda of the European Council on competitiveness and internal market held in Brussels on December 4th 2009 there was the discussion on the legal provisions for the establishment of a European private company scheme. This system is created to improve chances for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to operate on a European level, but however it represents a threat to the current system of internal codecision. In this light CEC European Managers fully supports ETUC’s disapproval of the draft and calls for a new legislative proposal, more respectful of the different European codetermination cultures.

New brochure on European Works Councils
The European Commission has published a new brochure on the revision of the Directive on European Works Councils. The brochure summarizes the major changes undertaken in the Directive, especially regarding the new rules and definitions.
Entered into force last June, the revision of the Directive ensures among others, proper enforcement of information and consultation of workers and makes the special negotiating body more representative.
It redefined the powers of the European Works Councils, which will focus on trans-national issues and plays an important role for social partners who should be informed of the composition of the special negotiating body and of the start of negotiations. The Directive also specifies the specific concepts of Information and Consultation.
